The research project allowed developing a Tablet App (infact 2 Apps) in Android to be used by health care nurses etc. in developing countries. The Apps supposed to help nurses to collect patients information when they go out of clinics or hospitals to rural areas. We assume that in clinics and hospitals, they have access to a WIFI sustem and to a computer, which serves as a Server that can hold data about pationts that the nurses monitor.
At the clinic, the Apps allow downloading the past data about the patients that they plan to visit on a new visiting trip. Once they are out of the clinic or hospital, the Apps will operate without Internet, this we assume to be a key feature of these Apps. We have developed these apps after interviewing nurses about the real situation in rural areas in Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Uganda, and Nicaragua.
It is our knowledge, in rural areas in developing countries, the access to Internet does not exist. Thus, the common Apps available in smart phones does not work. Also, it is our knowledge (based on the research we have done), there are no Apps that would help the nurses the way our Apps does. We have conducted a survey in Cambodia (amoung the nursing trainees) about the usefulness of the Apps we have developed. The positive response to the usefulness of these apps exceeded 80%.
