| 研究実績の概要 |
In FY2014, our research focused on two areas: (i), the proper analysis of honorific composition, and (ii), the proper analysis of honorific meanings. We made significant progress in both domains. Our results were presented at international conferences and published in their proceedings; a longer paper on honorific denotations is also currently under review at an international peer-reviewed journal. The PI also carried out related work on expressive meanings, lexical denotations, and pragmatic applications of game theory which has appeared in various venues including as a book published from Oxford University Press.

理由
Our project has three components: (i) honorific composition, (ii) honorific denotations, and (iii) the mathematical analysis of honorific use and politeness. During FY2014, we have (essentially) completed our work on (i) and (ii), something which we expected to take until FY2015. In FY2013 and FY2014 we also made significant progress in (iii); we anticipate significant results in this area during the upcoming fiscal year. Thus, our project is proceeding more smoothly than we had initially hoped.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
During FY2015, we plan to continue our analysis of the game-theoretic underpinnings of honorific use on the basis of the semantics for honorifics developed by the PI during FY2014. Given this semantics, our initial work on this area can now be expected to yield new results. The PI will work on this area in conjunction with Nicholas Asher (Cooperative Researcher); the results are expected to lead to presentations and publications, and also will be presented by the PI at the European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information in Barcelona, as will the work on honorific semantics, in two joint courses (one with Asher, and one with Daniel Gutzmann). We also plan an open workshop on honorification and politeness for November 2015, where the two project members and Asher will present aspects of the results of the project.
