研究概要 |
Equipment and software for processing data was purchased, and classroom data from head-held camcorders was successfully collected. Effective procedures for introducing students to research purpose and instruments, data-collection techniques, and permission forms were trialed and established. Preliminary results of the resultant data indicate a number of communicative tendencies in freshman oral communication students that may inhibit learning and strategies that have the potential to increase students' interactional competence. To increase the researcher's understanding in this field and disseminate these findings, two academic conferences were attended (one domestic (JALT, Kobe) and one international (LCR, Norway)), two domestic presentations given (ACTC, Osaka and PanSIG, Nagoya), and two papers published (JALT and ACTC).

理由
Due to unpredictable circumstances, an expert visit to Canada (Lethbridge, AB) was arranged but cancelled. Also, attendance and presentation of GIA research at TESOL (Portland, US) in March 2014 was accepted but cancelled. Research assistants did not begin processing data in late 2013.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Research assistants will use new equipment and transcription and analysis software help process 2013 classroom data. New head-held camcorders will be used to gather second-stage classroom data. Two conferences (domestic and international) will be attended, GIA-related research presentations given, and subsequent papers published.

次年度の研究費の使用計画 |
Due to unpredictable circumstances, a death in my immediate family, an expert visit to Canada (Lethbridge, AB) and presentation of GIA research at TESOL (Portland, US) in March 2014 were cancelled. For the same reason, research assistants did not begin processing data in early 2014 as planned. Estimated usage for the upcoming year include 250,000 yen for research assistants' salaries, 100,000 yen for new head-held camcorders, 300,000 yen for assistant's computer, software, back-up memory, and accessories, 100,000 yen for books, 100,000 yen for a domestic conference, 350,000 yen for an international conference, and 300,000 yen for the expert visit abroad.
