理由
A great deal of the literature on CLIL approaches to foreign language teaching and learning was reviewed in order to try to gain a greater understanding of the challenges and possibilities surrounding it. Additionally, the researchers attended several conferences and seminars seeking to gain more insight into the current state of foreign language education in Japan and the wider world. Interviews were conducted with leading practitioners of CLIL in Japan and discussions were held, both formally and informally with many people working, both as academic staff and in administrative roles, in universities in Japan, and with business people in the private sector. An academic paper outlining some of the issues surrounding the possible adoption of CLIL in Japan was published in the Hannan Ronshu, the journal of Hannan University.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The researchers intend to continue reviewing the relevant literature on CLIL and other forms of content based foreign language education in the second year of the project, April, 2014 to March, 2015. They also plan to attend and possibly present their research at international conferences on the topic. They intend to meet with researchers and teachers at institutes of higher education in Europe, which is the part of the world showing the greatest uptake and degree of investigation into CLIL approaches. It is also expected that the results of these investigations will be published in Japan. The principle researcher is based in Spain during this time and will engage an in-depth investigation of CLIL course and research there.

次年度の研究費の使用計画 |
Scheduling difficulties meant that funds intended for travelling to universities in Japan were left unused. Additionally, fewer expenses than anticipated were encountered for books and miscellaneous items such as postage and printing. Travel and conference fees will be incurred in pursuing the research. It is expected that the main researcher, Parsons, will travel to different universities in Spain to attend conferences and meet experts and practitioners, and that researcher Walker will travel to Finland for similar purposes. There will also be funds used to purchase books, journals and articles related to the research. It is also likely that some remuneration for conducting interviews with experts in the field in Europe will be required. It is intended that throughout 2015 and 2016 materials which may be of use to practitioners will be developed and made available through a web site devoted to the dissemination of ideas and the results of research into CLIL approaches to foreign language teaching and learning.
