| 研究概要 |
In concordance with the stated purpose of the research Japan’s Resource Dependency & the Rise of Resource Nationalism in Asia, the following achievements have been met in 2013:
1)As scheduled, I have begun to work on the overarching research framework on the specificities of the rise of resource-nationalism in Asia. Specifically, I have done an extensive desk-study of the literature on the concept of resource nationalism and wrote a conference paper to discuss my initial results with the academic community (Universite du Quebec a Montreal);
2)The initial round of desk-research on each case study has also been done where the historical background of the countries’ extractive industries as well as their political and economic trends have been mapped;
3)Intensive fieldwork periods have been undertaken on the site of the case studies throughout the year to collect primary and secondary data and conduct interviews. The expected outcomes of such fieldworks have successfully been met. Building on the data from such fieldworks, two working paper have been written and presented during international conferences (Sheffield University, Murdoch University and Universite de Montreal).

理由
The research is progressing well and the work is slightly ahead of the planned schedule, most notably the fieldwork part of the research. This is due to the fact that I have obtained a sabbatical year (2014-15) and as such, I have been able to allocate more time to the research than initially expected. As such, I have been able to participate to three more conferences than expected this year, and more importantly, to execute more fieldwork periods, earlier than initially planned.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
As I have obtained a one-year sabbatical leave, I have added an additional case study to the research project and have been investigating the case of Lao PDR (Laos) in addition to the three cases listed in the initial Kakenhi grant (Mongolia, Indonesia, and the Philippines). A fieldwork period has already been undertaken. While there is a sizeable change, the methodology for the additional case-study remains the same as planned for the other three cases and as such, no substantial obstacles are foreseen. Additionally, no delays to the proposed scheduled are foreseen.
