| 研究実績の概要 |
We examine how changes in energy intake and energy expenditure account for long-term trends in BMI using Japanese individual-level data. Our contributions are as follows. First, identifying the main driver of the long-term BMI trend has significant policy implications, given that the prevalence of obesity has drastically increased in most parts of the world. Second, we propose a methodological breakthrough for the lack of reliable long-term energy expenditure data; the difficulty that has hampered existing studies. Our novel approach estimates the trend in the physical activity level using the model of steady-state body weight. Third, we find that the primary driver of the long-term BMI trend is energy expenditure rather than energy intake. We believe that this result will be influential because it offers a completely different picture from the conventional view that the drastic increase in food supply has caused the rapid increase in obesity prevalence.

理由
研究代表者（中村）が11月に出産し、9月末から年度末まで休職した。年度の半分以上を休職したため、予定していた政府調査の調査票情報や慶應大学のデータの利用申請は行わなかった。また、妊娠により海外渡航ができなくなり、予定していた2014年7月のInternational Health Economics Association 10th World Congress（アイルランド・ダブリン）への参加を見合わせた。（中村が予定していた研究発表を代わりに連携研究者の丸山が行った。）
以上のような状況ではあったが、BMIの長期トレンドにおけるエネルギー摂取とエネルギー消費の寄与分について分析した結果を論文にまとめ、査読付き国際学術誌に投稿する準備が整った。

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
第一に、査読付き国際学術誌Economics & Human Biologyに再投稿し、現在2回目の審査が終了した論文"The Decline in BMI among Japanese Women after WWII” が採択されることを目標に、査読者のコメントをもとに論文をさらに改善する。
第二に、BMIの長期トレンドにおけるエネルギー摂取とエネルギー消費の寄与分についての論文が査読付き国際学術誌に採択されることを目標に、国内外の学会や研究会等で研究成果を発表し、研究へのフィードバックを得ながら、論文をさらに改善する。
第三に、国民健康栄養調査および国民生活基礎調査の調査票情報を再度申請し、学校給食が子供のやせ・肥満等に与えた影響やBMIの分布の時系列変化等についての分析をさらに進め、研究成果を論文にまとめる。
