| 研究実績の概要 |
We have created a study abroad program, which is intended to motivate students to study more in their regular English language classes to improve language skills and to attain higher TOEIC scores. However, improved course grades and test scores alone do not prepare students with interpersonal communication skills required to function in an English-speaking context. Recent literature on language learning outside of the classroom supports our use of digital storytelling and video interviewing to develop English skills outside the classroom. We have created courses that support student conversation skills through interviewing. We also teach our students to conduct and video-record interviews with non-Japanese speakers in preparation for the conversational demands of study abroad. Practice with video equipment, interviewing techniques, simple camera work and editing helps our students to interact with our international students and teachers. We created two courses: 1) Digital Storytelling for Engineering Narratives, and 2) Global Experience Gateway. The second course consisted of study abroad content, and a study abroad trip. During the course, students each completed two required interview videos: one before the study abroad trip and one during. After completing the first video and before going abroad, the students completed the Oral Proficiency Interview - computer (OPI-c) test. Five weeks later, during the completion of the second video students took the OPIc test again. 12 out of 18 students increased their level while 6 remained the same.

理由
Although the project progressed very smoothly, equipment upgrade and software changes and additions will be required in 2016, which is the final year of the project. Equipment needs were stable during 2015, so not all funding was distributed. Some of the budget is being carried over into 2016.

The research is going well, but additional equipment and software will be acquired. Furthermore, conferences will be attended and papers will be written.

Equipment needs were stable during the past year. Equipment upgrades are expected in the upcoming year, and more equipment will be required, so some of the budget will be carried over into the final year of the project.

| 次年度使用額の使用計画 |
During 2016, which is the final year of the project, two digital storytelling courses will be improved. More equipment and software will be required for improvement. Also, digital storytelling methods will be demonstrated to other professors in our university. Conference presentations will be made and articles will be submitted for publication. This will require funding from the carry over.
