This year’s research is the final year of a multi-year project, 2014-2019.This year’s work was field research in Puerto Rico, which had been postponed because Hurricane Maria damage in 2017 made the local situation was unstable. The Puerto Rican women work for poverty, medical care, education, etc. This work affects US society, and also Puerto Rican society. On the island, Puerto Rican feminists have worked actively to change the situation, working with members of the US Congress or with US feminists. They only accept their political situation of being a colony, but use that situation to obtain advantages that provide them with a better future. The realistic choice to make maximum use of the potential conditions in the existing system has caused a paradigm shift to the composition of political confrontation based on the traditional confrontation axis of independence = non-independence and anti-American - pro-American. In fact, in recent years, new political organizations have been established, one after another, in addition to the three existing parties that were separated by the island’s political status-quo. The new politically independent party, does not insist on independence as the goal of the party; rather, it aims to expel corruption and improve the lives of its citizens, and only proposes to make a constitutional assembly to determine a final decision regarding the island’s political status. The leader of this party is a leader of the island’s feminist movement. Thus, it has turned out that a very politically interesting phenomenon was occurring.
