研究実績の概要 |
Two research meetings took place during FY2: in Osaka in May 2015 and in Yamagata in March 2016. The May 2015 meeting looked at the data in respect to the fifth question posed in the FY1 report, namely do 2nd elements consisting of a single mora undergo rendaku less frequently? Preliminary analyses suggested this was indeed the case and it was decided to present our findings at the Japanese Phonological Society Conference at Osaka University in August. Our abstract was accepted, the presentation took place and was subsequently published in Phonological Studies Vol. 19 (March 2016). The March 2016 meeting in Yamagata reviewed FY2 findings as well as current database data. It was decided to pursue the following two questions in FY3: do nasal or voiced consonants at the end of the first element trigger rendaku more often than voiced consonants?; and do second elements beginning in ha-gyo (especially fu) undergo rendaku more often than others? Our aim is to present our findings at the European Association of Japanese Linguistics Conference at Kobe University in September 2016 and at Japanese/Korean Linguistics at NINJAL, Tokyo, in October 2016, respectively. A student at Osaka Jogakuin carried out database input from late 2015 until the end of the 2016 academic year.

理由
Work in FY3 will utilize the database to pursue the following two questions in FY3: do nasal or voiced consonants at the end of the first element trigger rendaku more often than voiced consonants?; and do second elements beginning in ha-gyo (especially fu) undergo rendaku more often than others? Our aim is to present our findings at the European Association of Japanese Linguistics Conference at Kobe University in September 2016 and at Japanese/Korean Linguistics at NINJAL, Tokyo, in October 2016, respectively. It is also our intention to publish our findings in the two respective conference proceedings. Furthermore, an Osaka Jogakuin student will carry out database input throughout FY3.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The bulk of FY3 funding will be used for travel expenses and for student labour. The former will cover two FY3 research meetings, in Osaka and in Yamagata, and travel to two conferences, in Kobe and in Tokyo. Any remaining funds will be used for books and miscellaneous expenses.
|
次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
During FY1 we were unable to find students to input data to the database. This money was carried over into FY2 for that purpose.
|
次年度使用額の使用計画 |
Using the money carried over from FY1 we were unable to carry out more work on student database input than expected.
