研究実績の概要 |
This project we have developed novel task specific ionic liquid (TSIL) based absorbents and an associated process for the recovery of CO2 from post-combustion flue gases. Our approach is to replace solvent water with a TSIL or a mixture of TSILs and normal non-aqueous co-solvents. We synthesized three novel TSILs namely 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethane) sulfonamide [1Hex-3MIm.Tf2N], 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethane)- sulfonamide [1M-3HEIm.Tf2N], and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-trimethylammonium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonamide [Coline.Tf2N] and investigated the CO2 adsorption performances of 20 different set of blended absorbents (amine + ILs), (amine + ILs + Hexanol), and (amine + ILs + H2O) with different mass fractions at temperatures ranging from (25, 40, 70, 80 and 90) ℃. We use commercially available and inexpensive organic amines, such as monoethanolamine (MEA), 2-(Ethylamino)ethanol (EAE), 2-(propylamino)ethanol (PAE), and 2-(Isopropylamino)ethanol (IPAE). The results of the ionic liquid based absorbents were compared with conventional MEA. Among the three TSILs; mixing [1Hex-3MIm.Tf2N] with amines gave excellent performance in terms of absorption rate, cyclic capacity and CO2 recovery percentage. The performances follows the order (IPAE + 1Hex-3MIm.Tf2N)>(EAE + 1Hex-3MIm.Tf2N)>(PAE + 1Hex-3MIm.Tf2N)>(MEA + 1Hex-3MIm.Tf2N).

理由
The applicant performed computer simulations of a series of ionic liquids and functional groups along with flue gas species. This will give us insight into chemical and structural features that will lead to favorable properties. Synthesized three novel TSILs namely 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazoliumbis(trifluoromethane)sulfonamide, 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-methylimidazoliumbis(trifluoromethane)sulfonamide, and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-trimethylammoniumbis(trifluoromethane)sulfonamide. The synthesize TSILs physical properties measurement and phase behavior investigation completed. The applicant started gas scrubbing tests with different mass fractions and temperatures. CO2 adsorption performances of 20 different set of blended absorbents (amine + ILs) were completed as planned.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The applicant planned to develop structurally modified new TSILs that will significantly increase in CO2 capture performances with a reduction of solvent regeneration energy. The synthetic TSILs are dual amino functionalized imidazolium, phosphonium, and aialkylammonium, in which both the cation and anion are functionalized with an appended amino group. Complete all designed TSILs synthesis and we will refine development efforts for the “optimal” absorbent, thoroughly measure or estimate all relevant properties, and identify high performance TSILs that will give higher absorption rate, high cyclic capacity and consume the minimal amount of energy.
