研究実績の概要 |
1.Overall, the first stage was successfully conducted by both researchers. Visits to the above-mentioned programs were conducted. The first visit to JAIMS institute in Hawaii proved to be worthwhile for data collection and observation of the instruction of intercultural business awareness and global leadership. Within Japan, visits to intercultural communication courses and/or faculties were helpful in understanding the current level of content and instruction in gaining perspectives from teachers regarding student needs now and in the future. 2.The American Chamber of Commerce was extremely cooperative in allowing the researchers to interview its members. As a result, the researchers are now working on following up interviews that may be used for case study material development as part of the learning material development. Moreover, the initial thematic analysis of information gathered during Stage I will allow us to begin work on corpus and content based materials that can be taught on campus and online. 3. Stage 1 of this project has concluded at a satisfactory level. Material collected can be used as the base for the learning program development goals. Furthermore, significant relationships with cooperating institutions have been formed that will allow us to further develop this project in Stage II: Material Creation and Piloting. In 2015, we aim to pilot a lecture series on intercultural workplace communication skills on campus that will lead to global-themed internship opportunities for students at multinational companies within the Chubu region.

2: おおむね順調に進展している
理由
The project is proceeding well in line with the research plan schedule. Initial literature reviewing and data collection was successfully completed on time. This means that the project is ready to move onto the next stage in which thorough data analysis can be done. Furthermore, through the research activities in Stage I, we now have the opportunity to pilot a series of intercultural workplace communication and understanding lectures in 2015. This will allow us to further fine tune the content through feedback from students taking part in the pilot course.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
1)In the second stage of this project, two objectives have been set: (1) thematic analysis of data collected and (2) textbook and online program material development. With the assistance of Anthony Cripps (co-investigator, Nanzan University), the material to be developed will include: (1) corpus exercises, (2) case-study material (interviews and worksheets), and (3) intercultural workplace communication exercises including interpreting, translating, content-based reading etc. 2) During both semesters and the summer of 2015, visits to cooperating institutes for further data collection and follow-up interviews will continue. Moreover, a pilot series of guest lectures by Japanese and foreign workers from leading foreign-affiliated companies in the Chubu region will be conducted at the Seto Campus. This will lead into a pilot internship program to run in the spring vacation in 2016 at cooperating companies. The students will be chosen from those attending the guest lecture series. 3)Results gained through the data analysis and pilot program questionnaires will be presented through papers both in Japan (JALT & SIETAR JAPAN) and overseas (HICE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE, HAWAII, U.S.A).

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The co-investigator purchased enough literature material in 2014 to become more familiar with intercultural communication research. The amount leftover is needed to purchase up-to-date material of the latest online curriculum development tools and methods in 2015.
|
次年度使用額の使用計画 |
The incurring amount will be used mainly to purchase written and online material regarding curriculum development tools for online tertiary programs.
