Our team (Gary Hansen, professor, UCLA, Elena Capatina, Research Fellow, UNSW, and I) have developed a life cycle model and calibrated it to the US data as a benchmark.
We investigated the differences between single and married households in terms of consumption, saving and responses to the long-term care shocks. We find spouses significantly provide a within-household insurance against the long-term care shock.
