研究実績の概要

The project produced very important results that will be published on peer-reviewed journals in the near future, as well as deepened our knowledge on the transport of protons beams in plasmas for Fast Ignition research. The radiography of plasmas in cylindrical geometry has been demonstrated and this measurement provided us important information about the radiography technique, demonstrating that using electrically isolated and separated targets for ion generation and plasma sample is fundamental for the success of the radiographic technique itself. Avoiding indeed self -generated electric and magnetic fields inside the target sample that actively affect the proton beam generation and propagation in the plasma sample. Moreover through this Kakenhi project we had the chance to investigate the ion generation in ultra-thin, sub micro-meter targets, demonstrating a new hybrid TNSA-Radiation Pressure mechanism of ion generation for target thicknesses below 0.3 microns. This result was made possible by the great improvement in the LFEX laser contrast in the last year.
Finally with the purchase of a 2-nodes 40-cores workstation it was possible to investigate by PIC simulation the proton generation and transport in cone-in-shell geometry for Fast Ignition. This revealed the importance of self generated magnetic fields inside the cone that actively affect the proton beam transport to the cone tip, allowing to find different solutions to the problem. All results will be published in peer-reviewed papers within this year.
