研究実績の概要

1- During fiscal year 2014 I continued studying the slavers commercial networks from Japan to America, through Manila.
Through this study I could find more information about several Japanese and also locate the first known Japanese to live in American Continent.
During this research, I discovered that there was a link between the first Japanese slaves who traveled to America and the Sephardic Jews, particularly with the Perez family. From that moment, I started biographically rebuilding the lives of the first three Japanese living in America, specifically in Nagasaki, Macau, Manila, Acapulco and finally in Mexico City. The results of this research are extremely important and also the positive message that the Jewish Perez family left to History. The struggle for the liberation of the Japanese illegally converted into slaves is inspiring. The final conclusions will soon be presented in a book that will be publish this year, in May 2015, by the Cultural Institute of Macau jointly with the Macau Foundation. In the second page of the book I express publicly the help of JSPS on this research.
2- I am also preparing a second book in Japanese with detailed descriptions of the conditions under which Asian slaves were transported in Portuguese ships from Nagasaki to India, Europe, and America.
3- Finally I am co-organizing a Congress with a section dedicated to Japanese, Chinese and Korean slave’s diaspora in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

理由

One can conclude that my study on the Asian slavery trade explains how was such trade carried out in Nagasaki (and from this port to other cities); what was the status of these slaves; what were their age groups; who were the slave suppliers. However I am still studing what was the social profile of the buyers of slaves and which were the major commercial networks used. Finally I am also envolved in the project of drawing biographical sketches of some Japanese slaves.

今後の研究の推進方策

I am also preparing a second book in Japanese with detailed descriptions of the conditions under which Japanese, Chineses and Korean slaves were transported in Portuguese ships from Nagasaki .to India, Europe, and America. Such descriptions will be given out in several languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Latin and Japanese.
I also plan to presen, papers in international conventions during 2015/2016.
Finally I am co-organizing a Congress with a section dedicated to Japanese, Chinese and Korean slave’s diaspora in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
