研究概要

がん遺伝子の発見をきっかけに、がん研究は遺伝子の時代に入り、欧米のがん研究先進諸国を中心に激しい研究競争を繰り広げている。地理的に隔離されているわが国の研究者は、研究者との直接の討論、情報・資料交換に自ずから制限があり、ともすると孤立しかねない。この問題点を克服するため、わが国の第一線の研究者を積極的にがん研究先進国に送る必要がある。派遣者には30才代の優れた若手研究者を多く含めるよう配慮している。
研究者同志が直接会い、討論することにより、論文や手紙よりもはるかに密度が高く、かつ新鮮な情報を得ることができる。また、訪問先においてセミナ-を行い、多数の研究者にわが国の研究状況を知らせることが可能である。遺伝子プロ-プ、抗体、細胞、化学物質などの研究資材を交換し、わが国の研究に役立たせることができる。訪問によって入手したこれらの情報は、「がん特ニュ-ス」「バイオがんニュ-ス」などを通じ、わが国のがん研究者に広く知らせるようにする。
本研究は、がん研究先進国との交流のうちヨ-ロッパ諸国との交流を目的としている。現在ヨ-ロッパとの二国間がん共同研究としては、日仏、日独の二つのプロジェクトがあり、毎年場所を変え、特定のテ-マについてワ-クショップを開催している。本研究は、主として日独、日仏ワ-クショップを通してヨ-ロッパのがん研究先進国と研究交流を進めている。ワ-クショップ参加者は、その機会にヨ-ロッパ各地の先端的な研究所を訪問し、セミナ-を開くなどわが国の研究成果を広めた。この他ヒト遺伝子マッピングなどがんに関係した国際学会にも本研究費により定期的に派遣している。
1988年:1988年7月25〜27日、パスツ-ル研究所(フランス・パリ)においてヒト・レトロウイルスについて日仏ワ-クショップを開催し、成人T細胞白血病ウイルス、エイズウイルスについて討論を行った。わが国から11名の研究者を本研究費によって派遣した。同年12月12〜14日には東京においてヒトがんウイルスに関する日独ワ-クショップを開催、ドイツ側から18名が参加、ヒトパピロ-マウイルスを中心に討論を行った。
1989年:1989年9月28〜30日、ドイツエッセン大学において「分子および細胞からの発がん研究」についてワ-クショップを開き、わが国から9人の研究者を派遣した。また、同年11月20〜22日、京都においてDNA修復に関する日仏ワ-クショップを開催、フランス側より10名の研究者が参加した。
1990年:1990年9月25〜26日、パスツ-ル研究所において「がんの誘導と抑制」に関する日仏ワ-クショップを開催、がん抑制遺伝子など現在もっともホットな話題について討論した。わが国から8名が参加した。この他、英国オックスフォ-ドで開かれたヒト遺伝子マッピング会議(1990年9月6〜10日)にも1名を派遣した。1991年3月6〜8日には東京においてサイトカインと増殖因子の臨床応用に関する日独ワ-クショップを開催し、ドイツ側から9名が参加した。
本研究は、わが国からヨ-ロッパへの派遣者の旅費、滞在費を負担した。わが国で行われたワ-クショップの場合は、それぞれの国から派遣されてきた研究者の旅費は当該国が責任をもった。本研究班は、参加者の国内旅費と宿泊費、および会議費を負担した。
