Outline of Annual Research Achievements

『高密度共役』領域では,分子性物質の空隙を電子物性制御のための最後のFrontierと捉え,空隙にわたる電子の次元性の拡張・高い物質密度・大きな状態密度を実現し,その電子的性質の解析・実証を経て,包括的な電子共役の理解へ向けた分子性材料設計指針を確立することを目的とした研究を展開している.
『高密度共役』領域総括班では,研究推進目標として各班連携によるTranslational Research型研究の循環の円滑な実施を掲げ,そのための具体的な取り組みとして,1)高密度共役分子科学シンポジウムによる領域内のコンセンサス形成と領域外への問題提起,2)派遣型マイスター制度の創設・運営による循環ボトルネックの解決と循環速度の向上,3)高密度共役フェロー制度の創設と運営,4)招聘型マイスター制度の実施をその中心的な取り組みに据えている.
2020年度は,COVID-19による国際的な人流の完全な停止を受けて,1)第一回高密度共役公開シンポジウムをオンライン型で実施した.2)派遣型マイスター制度は国外への派遣は完全に停止したものの,一部国内での研究グループ間相互派遣を実施した。加えて領域会議をオンラインで隔週で行うことにより、領域内共同研究のスタートをかえって迅速に行うことができた.
領域内での共同研究を加速させるために,共通装置としてカンタムデザイン社製・物理特性測定システム (PPMS)を導入(COVID-19による納期遅れのため,執行・導入は2021年度).これにより,伝導度の温度・磁場変化測定が可能となった。
若手育成支援Gの領域内で独立した活動として, “X”-conjugationの学理を確立するための若手Closed ミキサーを年度内に合計2回,オンラインにて実施し,上述のフェロー制度を介した次世代研究者育成の取り組みとして機能させた.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

研究推進目標として各班連携によるTranslational Research型研究の循環の円滑な実施は,実際の研究者交流が完全に制限される中,オンラインを駆使してむしろ効率的に循環を形成できた側面を強く有している.1)公開シンポジウムにおける直接的・偶発的な意見交換はほとんど行えない一方で,むしろPier-to-Pier型の共同研究はCOVID-19前よりも大きく進展し,2020年度内での論文による共同研究成果発表に結実している.2)国内研究者派遣型研究は成果発表に直結し,国内での共同研究を活発化させる契機となった.3)海外への研究者派遣・海外からの研究者招聘は完全に停止し,かつ2020年度に予定していた共用設備の導入も大幅な遅れが避けられなかったため,これが総括班経費繰越の最大の要因となった.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

COVID-19の大きな影響を受けながらも,領域内における総括班の活動目標は順調に達成されており,最終目標に向けた研究展開に大きな問題は発生していない.大きな障害は,1)国際共同研究の直接的な人的交流による実施であり,2023年度の本格的な再開を予定している.特に,2020~2022年度の主に国内における領域内研究活動において,何が国際連携研究として必須か?の要素が明らかになった側面もあり,2023年度以降,むしろ効果的に国際共同研究を実施できると考えている.
一方の大きな障害は,国内の電気代高騰に伴う共用設備の停止期間長期化であり,本領域でも従来利用してきたSPring-8/KEKなどの大型施設の極端な利用制限にとどまらず,各計画研究・公募研究においても一定の研究活動制限を受け,非常に大きな障害となっている.2023年度以降,状況が大きく好転しない限りは,領域で対処可能な推進方策としては打つ手がない.
