Research Abstract |
Basic methods for anatomical landmark detection, statistical mathematical modeling of organs, understanding of organ structure, and so on have been developed. They consist of technical bases of computational anatomy and fully-automated understanding of structure of primary organs has been realized. These basic technologies have led to the technological advancement of computer aided diagnosis and computer assisted surgery. Their qualitative increase in safety and effectiveness has been realized. As one of the activities of the coordination committee, CT image database with 200 cases has been developed. It provides the gold standard of organ segmentation which can be used for evaluating segmentation methods. To accelerate and boost collaboration among our research groups, general-purpose medical-image-processing software has been also developed. Seminars and workshops have been held to foster young researchers in the area of computational anatomy.
