Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
地球深部のマグマに関する研究では、本領域メンバーの計算機シミュレーションによって示された下部マントルで鉄の多くがFe3+となっているという結果を踏まえ、鉄がFe3+の含水条件下で融解実験を行った。その結果、深部で発生するマグマはSiO2に乏しくなることが示された。また、Fe3+を含むマグマとFe2+を含むマグマが密度逆転を起こすことが明らかとなった。これは、マグマ中におけるFe2O3の圧縮率が非常に大きいことによると結論づけた。マグマの物性変化は、マグマの構造変化と密接に関係していると考えられる。そこで含水マグマの構造解析を放射光と中性子を用いて高圧下で行った結果、圧力の増加に伴うSiO4ネットワークの構造変化を明らかにすることができた。また、差応力下でのガラス(マグマ模擬物質)の構造変化を調べた。揮発性成分の挙動については、スティショバイトとブリッジマナイトについて高圧下での窒素の溶解度を調べ、深部マントルへの窒素の運搬を議論した。また、地球深部への水素の輸送にAlを含むPhase Dやブリッジマナイト、さらに23Å相などが担っていることを実験的に示すとともに、含水相の状態方程式や結晶構造を決定した。下部マントル鉱物の弾性波速度については、Alを含むブリッジマナイトやAlを含む高圧含水相Phase Dなど、様々な物質について高温高圧下での測定に成功した。加えてマグマやガラスについても弾性波速度を測定した。これらの結果を基に、地震波速度構造との対比により、下部マントルの不均質構造を議論することができる。中心核の鉄合金に含まれる揮発性元素については、弾性波や密度の測定を高温高圧下で行い、地震波速度構造との対比が可能となった。以上のように、計画研究他班との連携や本領域による国際活動支援により、「核-マントル物質の構造と物性」に関する研究を推進することができた。
