Outline of Annual Research Achievements

当初予定通り下記3項目について研究を進めた。また領域全体で行っているスロー地震カタログ作成にも貢献した。
(A)スロー地震諸現象の時間空間的な関連性の解明:摩擦特性が交互に変化する線断層モデルを構築し、システムが局所的な破壊から断層全体の破壊へ遷移する際にスロー地震的な挙動を示すことを明らかにした。4月の紀伊半島沖地震について微動、超低周波地震、SSEのカタログを構築した。並行して本震によるプレート境界の応力変化を推定した。スロー地震の伝播速度と摩擦特性との関連を定量的に説明することに成功した。全世界的にブラウン運動モデルを適用するために、モデルの再検討を行った。
(B)現実的プレート運動システムにおけるモデル化:南海トラフの沈み込み形状と地球潮汐による応力変化を考慮したSSEの数値モデルを開発した。潮汐の影響によって、四国東部のSSEの発生間隔がより周期的になるという結果が得られた。ヒクランギ沈み込み帯ににおいて、温度場、流れ場、含水量分布、震源分布、スラブ内の含水鉱物の相転移などの時空間的な3次元熱対流数値シミュレーションを行うとともに、断層摩擦構成則のパラメータの不均質性を考慮して、SSEと海溝型巨大地震の発生過程を再現した。
(C)巨大地震を含むプレート運動システムの予測可能性の検討:大型振動台を利用した岩石摩擦実験を行い、破壊先端の非弾性領域の長さと破壊伝播速度の関係を明らかにした。実験では同じ載荷条件でも断層面状態によってSSEや前震活動が変化することを明らかにした。大地震の初期破壊過程の解析限界について検討し、M7級の地震でも安定に解が得られることを確認した。熊本地震以前の地殻変動を解析し、本震発生以前には震源域における歪み蓄積速度が小さかったことを明らかにした。また2014年長野県北部地震の余効すべりのInSAR解析を行った。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

初年度として、まず各研究者は研究拠点において、研究補助者の雇用、サーバーの導入など、予定通り研究基盤の構築を行った。計画研究内に設置した3つの研究項目それぞれにおいて、各研究者が独自のアイデアで研究を進めるとともに、研究集会における研究発表や意見交換を活発に行った。9月の領域全体集会はもちろん、10月の地震学会において11件、12月の米国地球物理学会において15件など、国内および国際的に重要な学術会議において、本計画研究のメンバーによる多くの発表が行われている。それらに関連した論文発表も多く、十分な成果が得られている。当初雇用予定だった特任研究員の着任が遅れることが判明したために次年度に繰越を行ったが、これは想定の範囲内であり影響は軽微である。以上まとめるとおおむね順調に進展しているといえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続き下記3項目について研究を進める。
(A)スロー地震諸現象の時間空間的な関連性の解明:微動、SSEおよびその中間帯域におけるイベント検出研究成果を全世界的にコンパイルしカタログデータベースを作成する。データベースを用いて空間的な特徴の抽出、および時定数の異なる現象間の関係の定量化を行う。また低速~高速すべり速度に渡って普遍的な伝播速度の定式化を行い、その理論と観測されたスロー地震の伝播速度から、摩擦特性の推定を試みる。
(B)現実的プレート運動システムにおけるモデル化:大型岩石摩擦実験によってSSEと不安定すべりについて定性的な理解を進めるとともに、SSEが卓越するための条件を精査する。特に先駆的SSEの発生条件および振る舞いを支配する要因の特定を試みる。スロー地震の震源断層露頭にみられる複数のすべり面を数値実験でモデル化し、マクロに見たスロー地震の発生間隔や規模の様態を調べる。2016年熊本地震後の余効滑りの現実的モデルのプロトタイプを構築する。スラブの任意形状を扱える3次元熱対流海洋プレート沈み込みモデルを用いて、スロー地震発生地域における温度構造・脱水のモデリングを行う。特にカスカディア、メキシコ沈み込み帯を対象とする。
(C)巨大地震を含むプレート運動システムの予測可能性の検討
先駆的SSEが観測された巨大地震の震源過程の分析を行うとともに、幅広いマグニチュード範囲における、前震活動とスロースリップの関係について調べる。南海トラフにおいて、地球潮汐を考慮したスロー地震の数値シミュレーションを行う。発生サイクル内でのスロー地震活動について、観測との比較や将来どのような活動の変化が予想されるか議論する。また東北沖の数値シミュレーションにも着手する。またヒクランギ沈み込み帯における長期的SSEのモデル化を行うとともに、カイコウラ地震が海溝型巨大地震発生に及ぼす影響も調べる。
