Outline of Annual Research Achievements

下記3項目について研究を進めた。
(A)スロー地震諸現象の時間空間的な関連性の解明:豊後水道のSSEモデルを改善し、すべり領域上端を正確に推定した。SSEの移動速度と摩擦特性の関係を数値実験により定量化した。紀伊半島沖で、微動、超低周波地震、SSEの詳細な分析からスロー地震が超広帯域な現象であることを明らかにし、微動のエネルギー推定を行った。新たな微動のメカニズム推定法を検討した。速度状態依存摩擦則に従う摩擦不均質線断層の挙動を数値計算により調査し、普通の地震の前震や余震についてモデル化を行った。

(B)現実的プレート運動システムにおけるモデル化:カスカディア、九州等で3次元熱対流沈み込みモデルを構築し、SSE、地震活動の地域性と脱水量の対応を解明した。また固液2相流理論に基づいた沈み込み帯モデルにより、スラブ形状と水の分布との関係を明らかにした。潮汐とプレート形状を考慮したSSEの数値計算を実施し、潮汐が短期的SSEの周期性が高めることを示した。ヒクランギSSEのモデル化を行い、巨大地震によりSSEが励起されることを示した。断層鉱物の脆性塑性遷移点の多様性によってスロー地震の発生様式の深さ依存性を説明できることを示した。

(C)巨大地震を含むプレート運動システムの予測可能性の検討:岩石摩擦実験により、高い載荷速度は小さな震源核サイズとシステムの不安定性につながること、断層面の粗さが初期破壊過程に影響することを明らかにした。世界中の沈み込み帯で重力変化と地震活動度に相関を検出、水による荷重変形が地震活動を誘発している可能性を指摘した。M8のメキシコ地震の震源すべりを推定し、群発地震活動との対応を調べた。また一般的に巨大地震前の前震存在確率を計算し、30-40%という値を得た。時間発展の運動方程式に揺動項を加える数値モデルを開発しSSEや拡散的な伝播を再現した。

Reason

本年度は昨年度構築した研究基盤の上に、一層研究の充実を図る年度であった。本年度から公募研究、新たな研究分担者、連携研究者も増加し、計画研究実施能力が増大した。個々の研究はもちろん、領域として、また計画研究としての活動も活発であり、本年度は領域全体集会、C01班集会ともに開催され、議論が盛り上がった。日本地球惑星科学連合大会19件、日本地震学会16件、米国地球物理学会13件と、重要な学術会議において本研究計画の存在感を発揮した。これらの学会において学生が発表賞を授与されることも多く、研究の注目度が高いことを裏付けている。本年度公表された論文は前年度に比べて倍増、30篇を超え、極めて順調に成果が出ている。当初の計画以上の進展が得られたと評価できる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

スロー地震の地球科学的モデル構築を、以下の3つのカテゴリーに分類して推進する。領域全体集会、C01班集会をはじめ、学会等で成果を公表し論文を出版する。
(A)スロー地震諸現象の時間空間的な関連性の解明:様々なスロー地震の移動速度の値およびその時間変化について、移動速度と摩擦特性との関係式を用いて、摩擦特性の条件を絞り込む。さらに、震源の深さとスロー地震の関係などについても説明を試みる。南海トラフにおける浅部超低周波地震および微動のサイズ分布、継続時間、エネルギー放射量等の解析し、震源領域における不均質構造および応力変化等との関連を調べる。2次元ブラウン運動モデルを用いた微動の地域性の定量化を行う。
(B)現実的プレート運動システムにおけるモデル化:琉球海溝とメキシコの沈み込み帯において、沈み込み史などを考慮した3次元熱対流沈み込みモデルを構築し、スロー地震の発生と温度場・脱水分布との関連性を定量的に議論する。スロー地震の震源断層露頭との考えがある複数すべり面のモデル化・数値実験を行い、マクロに見たすべりイベントの発生間隔や規模の様態を調べる。特に、仮定する構成則へ依存する点・しない点を明確にする。

(C)巨大地震を含むプレート運動システムの予測可能性の検討:大型2軸摩擦試験機で得られたスロースリップの2次元破壊伝播パターンを数値シミュレーションによって再現し、その物理パラメータを抽出する。スロースリップから大地震の高速すべりまでの過程を理解するために、先駆的スロースリップが観測された巨大地震の震源過程の分析を行う。また、中小地震の震源メカニズム解を用いた新たなスロー地震の検出方法についても検討を行う。地球潮汐等の応力擾乱がスロー地震発生に与える影響を数値モデリングにより評価する。特に日向灘領域で発生するスロー地震を含めた数値モデリングを実施する。
