Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度はサブカテゴリごとに以下の成果が得られた。
(A)スロー地震諸現象の時間空間的な関連性の解明:南海トラフの浅部低周波微動のサイズ分布の時間変化を調べた結果、終盤の活動低下の原因は、震源の流体圧変化だと推定できた。日本海溝のスロー地震活動の震源パラメター推定を進めた。同地域で微動の移動現象と海山などの構造の比較を行った。ニュージーランドの群発地震がスロースリップに先行することを発見した。1980~1987年のアナログ地震波形記録中に微動活動を検出することに成功した。微動の高周波成分の定量化を行い、その原因が震源域の以上構造であると推定した。ブラウン運動微動モデルと超広帯域スロー地震観測の対応を明らかにした。
(B)現実的プレート運動システムにおけるモデル化:熱い沈み込み帯でスラブ直上に低粘性層が存在すると、その内部を水が素早く上昇する可能性を示した。沈み込み帯温度構造モデルの妥当性を評価する手法を開発した。フィリピン海プレートの沈み込みに伴う温度・含水量分布と微動現象との関連性を調べ、脱水がスロー地震発生に寄与していると結論した。大型振動台の摩擦実験で地震は観測から断層面の破損状態を把握する手法を開発した。また局所的な載荷速度が前震の発生条件に影響することを示した。実験中に弾性波速度を越える速度で伝播するゆっくりすべりを発見し、その物理モデルを構築した。
(C)巨大地震を含むプレート運動システムの予測可能性の検討:東北地震の余効変動を機械学習によって予測する実験を行った。余効変動のゆっくりしたべき乗減衰の振る舞いを見出した。また余効すべりの伝播速度と大きさをもとにプレート境界の摩擦特性を推定した。スロースリップの発展予測のためのデータ同化手法を開発し南海トラフに適用した。南海トラフでSSE数値シミュレーションを実施し、予測における有効法線応力の深さ分布の重要性を確認した。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

今年度はそれぞれの研究分担者、研究協力者が協調して十分な成果が出たが、いくつか外部的な問題の影響を受けた。一つは本計画研究が中心となって開催を目指していた11月のチリの押しかけワークショップが、現地政情不安のために大幅に規模を縮小せざるを得なかったことである。それでも数名が現地に赴き今後の研究活動についての議論ができた。もう一つは3月に神戸大学で予定していた班集会が新型コロナウィルス感染拡大によって中止となったことである。これについては1か月後(2020年度)にオンライン集会を開催して補うことができた。それでも通常通りに比べると交流は制限された。これらのマイナス要因を考えても、研究はおおむね順調であるといえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

スロー地震の地球科学的モデル構築を、以下の3つのカテゴリーに分類して推進する。領域全体集会、C01班集会をはじめ、学会等で成果を公表し論文を出版する。
(A)スロー地震諸現象の時間空間的な関連性の解明:スロー地震の統計的性質の時空間変化する原因について、観測データと理論モデルの両面から検討する。また余効すべり伝播速度と摩擦構成則を紐づける理論についてをスロー地震の連鎖破壊モデルにも適用する。さらに数百秒から数ヘルツまでの広帯域スロー地震の特徴とその地域性の起源を解明する。スロー地震確率過程モデルと広帯域で観察されるスロー地震の特徴を比較しモデルの改良を行う。
(B)現実的プレート運動システムにおけるモデル化:南海トラフから日向灘で発生する長期的スロースリップや浅部のすべり状況を考慮した地震サイクルシミュレーションを実施し、長期の観測記録と比較する。アラスカ南部において、太平洋プレート及びヤクタトマイクロプレートの北米プレート下への沈み込みに伴う3次元温度構造モデリングを行い、温度・脱水量分布を推定する。スロー地震活動とプレート境界の海山分布を比較し、構造の影響を推定する。
(C)巨大地震を含むプレート運動システムの予測可能性の検討:トンガ海溝沈み込み帯において、海溝浅部巨大地震後の深発地震活動変化と度が減少する現象と、スロー地震との関係を明らかにする。またプレート境界で発生する巨大地震に断層形状とすべり量分布を同時推定する解析手法を適用し、巨大地震とスロー地震との関係について議論する。大型摩擦実験を実施し、岩石摩擦すべりの安定・不安定性遷移メカニズムとそのスケール依存性の解明、またゆっくりすべりの超高速伝播現象に関して、数値実験による再現を行う。
