Outline of Final Research Achievements	The historical issues in this study include restoration of honor, investigation of the truth, and demands for compensation for human rights damage caused by war, colonial rule, and political oppression by powerful regimes. The project participants traced the history, significance, and challenges of citizens' activities to address such historical issues in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and other countries, and examined their development through document research and interviews. The project participants also identified the existence of issues such as the limits of respecting the wishes of the affected parties, the difficulty of maintaining nonpartisanship and trust due to personal ties as a result of organization and expansion of activities, as well as the potential for nonpartisan consensus efforts and community-level deliberations to resolve issues and create reconciliation at the citizen level. The existence of such issues was confirmed.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements	今日、日本社会で歴史問題について語る時、それによる近隣諸国との対立や葛藤の要素ばかりが注目され、和解の可能性やそれに向けた努力は意識されにくい。しかし、一般に知られている以上に、日本社会でも活動が積み重ねられ、コミュニティや小さな市民同士の交流のなかで、成果を上げている事例を見つけ出し、和解の可能性を確認することができた。その研究成果は、市民向けシンポジウム開催や論文集の刊行を通じて公表している。また、歴史問題の和解のために活動してきた人びとの証言記録も多く収集している。今後、それを活用した研究も可能になる見通しである。
