Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we aimed to establish a design principle for synthetic molecular engines that link mechanical motions to energy conversion by introducing the principle of functional expression of biological molecular engines. By using alternating amphiphilic multiblock molecules mimicking membrane proteins with multiple transmembrane structures as the molecular backbone, we succeeded in constructing ion channels that respond to multiple stimuli. Also, by combining multiple rotor-type molecules that rotate on a substrate, we succeeded in constructing a system with gear-like interlocking rotary motion. Furthermore, we clarified the relationship between molecular conformational change and force by using torsion-type molecules that undergo conformational change at the gas-liquid interface. On the other hand, also we established a method for constructing hybrid-type molecules of synthetic molecules and biomolecules.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
