Outline of Annual Research Achievements

新たに開発した対向アンビル型高圧発生装置を駆使することで、オリビン型硫化物Fe2GeS4のピエゾ磁気効果を評価した。本物質では、70-140 Kの温度領域においてCy型の磁気構造が実現するが、これはピエゾ磁気効果活性なmmmの磁気点群を有する。この磁気秩序相において、応力に比例する磁化を観測した。ピエゾ磁気効果テンソルはQ= 6.6 ×10^{-2} emu/mol/MPaと見積もられ、これは既存の物質群で最も大きな値を誇るCoF2のピエゾ磁気効果テンソルに匹敵することを発見した。巨大応答の起源は、Fe^{2+}イオンの電子状態において、軌道磁気モーメントが残存していることに加えて、軌道縮退に起因するヤーンテラー不安定にあると考えられる。また、応力磁場冷却の条件を変えてピエゾ磁気効果の大きさを評価することで、ドメイン単一化が可能であることを明らかにした。

上記に加えて、様々な量子液晶物質の開発に取り組んだ。具体的な実績として、クロムテルル化物Cr3Te4における巨大な磁歪現象の発見、イルメナイト型酸化物Ni0.4Mn0.6TiO3のスピングラス状態における非相反光学応答の発見、高圧合成による極性構造を有する磁性体InVO3の発見、イルメナイト酸化物NiTiO3におけるフェロアキシャル秩序に起因するドメイン構造の実空間観察、Aサイト秩序型ペロブスカイト型酸化物CaCo3Ti4O12における多彩な磁気秩序相の解明、磁気四極子秩序系Ba1-xKxMn2As2における巨大な異方的磁気抵抗効果の観測、高圧下で作成したラーベス相BaIr2における超伝導の発見、BaPtAs-BaPtSb固溶体における超伝導電子相図の解明が挙げられる。

上記の研究は、班内・班間の共同研究を通して推進した。その情報共有の機会として、第二回量子物質開発フォーラムを開催した。

Reason

本研究課題では、化学的要因・結晶構造・磁気構造・バンド構造に着目することで、新奇な量子液晶状態が具現する新物質を開発することを目的としている。令和四年度は、特異な磁気応答を示す量子液晶状態の開拓に関して、重要な成果が挙がった。具体的には、クロムテルル化物Cr3Te4が、9Tの磁場印加によりΔV/V=500-1170ppmの巨大な膨張を示すことを発見した。これは、反強磁性体が新しいアクチュエータ材料として有望であることを示す重要な成果である。また、磁気四極子秩序系Ba1-xKxMn2As2における巨大な異方的磁気抵抗効果の観測は、遍歴電子系における電気磁気効果に起因した現象である可能性がある。これは、磁気多極子秩序系における新現象の開拓という意味で意義深い。さらに、複数の新超伝導体の発見にも成功した。これらの超伝導体は、ユニークな結晶構造を有していたり、スピン軌道相互作用の卓越する元素を含んだりしている。こうした化学的な特徴が、エキゾチック超伝導状態を誘起していることが期待される。以上のように、当初の計画に沿って、研究活動は順調に進捗している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

前年度に引き続き、(a) 化学的要因に着目した量子液晶物質の探索、(b) 結晶構造に着目した量子液晶物質の探索、(c) 磁気構造に着目した量子液晶物質の探索、(d) バンド構造に着目した量子液晶物質の探索、(e) 理論指針に基づき物質開発、(f) 外場による量子液晶の制御を実施する。対象とする物質群は、幾何学的フラストレーションを内包する量子スピン系・強相関効果の卓越した遷移金属酸化物・鉄系高温超伝導体・銅酸化物超伝導体・異常高原子価を有する物質・スピン軌道相互作用の卓越した5d遷移金属化合物・軌道縮退を有する不定比性化合物などである。到達目標は、新奇スピンネマティック秩序・電荷不均化状態・特異な対称性の破れを付随する軌道秩序・方向二色性などのマルチフェロイクス現象・非従来型超伝導・高温超伝導・トポロジカル量子輸送現象などの新奇な量子液晶現象が発現する物質を開発することである。

令和五年度は、前年度まで得られた研究成果をさらに発展させる。例えば、応力の印加により磁化が生じる反強磁性体(ピエゾ磁気効果物質)の開発を進め、応答係数の巨大化・発現温度領域の拡大を目指す。また、電気磁気効果・ピエゾ磁気効果を示す反強磁性体のドメイン構造を光学的手法により可視化し、複合外場によりドメイン構造が制御される様子を詳らかにする。さらに、極限環境下における物質合成と物性計測を通して、スピン軌道相互作用の顕在する物質群において新超伝導体を探索する。これらの研究は、班内・班間の共同研究を通して推進する。
