Research Abstract

本新学術領域研究は、物性科学を担う様々な物質群の中で分子性物質が持つ特徴である分子の自由度を利用することで物質科学の新しい展開を図るものであるが、本計画研究では、分子の配列自由度に着目する。非球形である分子は対称性が悪いために、多様な配列パターンで凝集する。さらに、凝集が分子間の弱いファンデアワールス相互作用によるために、格子は圧力によって容易に圧縮・変形し得る。この特徴が構造の多様性を生み、物性の包括的な研究を可能にする。本計画研究では、分子配列が物性を支配する重要なパラメータであるとの認識のもと、分子配列自由度を化学圧力及び物理圧力を駆使して制御することにより、スピン秩序、電荷秩序、ゼロギャップ伝導、電荷移動誘電性に関わる新しい電子相の開拓を目指す。
