Research Abstract

本研究は、顔認識の「社会的側面」および「社会的注意」(社会的場面で、他者とうまく視線が合わないなどといった問題)の側面をその発達過程から実験的に検討することを目的としている。本年度は「社会的側面」のひとつとして、乳児の顔認識能力について検討した。まず、乳児による顔の学習が、顔の運動情報によって促進されるかを検討した。その結果、未知の女性の顔を動画で提示した場合には、静止画で提示した場合よりもより短い時間で顔の学習が成立することが明らかになった。さらに、乳児に顔模式図形を観察させる際、目や口が人間にとって可能な動きをする図形を、不可能な動きをする図形よりも選好して注視した。これらの知見から、顔の運動情報が、乳児による顔の学習および知覚にとって重要な役割を果たすことが示された。一方、「社会的注意」に関連した研究では、乳児による視線方向の知覚を検討するため、ウォラストン錯視に対する6ヶ月児から8ヶ月児の注視行動を馴化法を用いて計測した。その結果、8ヶ月児は成人と同様にウォラストン錯視を知覚することが示された。これは、他者の視線方向の検出には顔の全体処理が関与していることを強く示す結果であった。これらの成果は、Child DevelopmentやInfant Behavior and Developmentなどの学術雑誌に採択され、海外では視知覚研究で最も多くの研究者が集まり権威のあるVision Science Society(VSS)や、乳児を対象とした幅広い分野の研究者が集まるICIS(International Conference on Infant Studies)、国内では、顔研究の著名な研究者で構成されている日本顔学会、日本心理学会など、いくつかの学会で発表された。
