Outline of Annual Research Achievements

以下の装置開発を行った。木曽シュミット超広視野CMOSカメラの基礎開発として、業務用大型CMOSセンサの性能評価を行い、読み出しシステムを開発した。これを用いて試験用のカメラを製作し、木曽シュミット望遠鏡に装着して試験観測を行った。国立天文台岡山天体物理観測所にて近赤外広視野カメラOAOWFCの定常運用を開始し、自動観測システムの構築を行った。このシステムを用いて銀河面の自動掃天観測を行って変光星を探索した。データ解析パイプラインは平成25年度に開発したものをさらに改良し、変光星の自動検出の機能を組み込んだ。京大3.8m望遠鏡用面分光ユニットを完成させ、岡山天体物理観測所188cm望遠鏡に装着して試験観測を行った。その結果、実際の天体スペクトルを用いてシステムの全体効率が当初設計通りであることを確認した。中国50cm望遠鏡を広島大学かなた望遠鏡に装着して性能試験観測を進め、設計通りの結像性能が達成されていることを確認した。また、小型望遠鏡を用いて望遠鏡架台の天体追尾性能試験を行い、オープンループでの追尾性能が0.1秒角/5分であることを確認した。この可視三色同時カメラを製作して望遠鏡に搭載して試験を行い、望遠鏡と装置を合わせた観測効率が当初設計通りであることを確認した。望遠鏡ドームの製作も行った。
本計画研究を基盤として、重力波追跡観測を行う望遠鏡ネットワークJ-GEM（Japanese collaboration for Gravitational-wave Electro-Magnetic follow-up observations）を結成し、米国の重力波望遠鏡LIGOと欧州の重力波望遠鏡Virgoの国際共同研究チームとの間に追跡観測のための協定書（MOU）を交わした。
その他、miniTAO望遠鏡、木曽シュミット望遠鏡、かなた望遠鏡などで超新星探査とガンマ線バーストの観測研究を行った。

Reason

平成26年度も、前年度に引き続き重力波天体の光赤外対応現象探索体制を整えるため、さまざまな装置開発に重点をおいて研究を行った。各装置開発は年度当初に設定した開発目標をほぼ達成している。中国50cm望遠鏡についてはシステム全体は完成して性能試験まで終了したが、中国国内の事情により中国への輸出・搬送が遅れている。これは相手国側の都合によるところが大きく、交渉によって解決をはかっているところである。
平成26年度は、本計画研究を基盤として、我が国の保有する望遠鏡群を結集して、重力波天体探査のための観測ネットワークJ-GEMを立ち上げることができた。そして、米欧の最新鋭重力波望遠鏡LIGOおよびVirgoの国際共同研究チームとの間に観測協定を交わすことができた。これは平成27年度に予定されているLIGOの定常運転に向けて、LIGOで検出された重力波信号を追跡観測する準備が完了したことを意味しており、本計画研究の目標達成に向けて大変大きな前進であった。
同時並行して推進している突発天体観測においても、グループ全体で20本の査読論文を出版しており、十分な科学的成果が上がっていると判断される。
以上をもって、計画は「おおむね順調に進展している」と自己評価した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

以下の取り組みを通して、重力波天体の光赤外電波対応現象の探索システムの構築を進めるとともに、既存の望遠鏡群を用いて光赤外電波における突発天体の観測的研究を推進していく。
木曽観測所超広視野CMOSカメラのプロトタイプとして、大型CMOSセンサーを8個用いた試験カメラを製作し、各種突発天体の観測を行う。KWFCを用いた超新星探査を継続する。miniTAO望遠鏡による近傍銀河の観測および超新星観測を行う。
京大3.8m望遠鏡用面分光ユニットを岡山天体物理観測所188cm望遠鏡に取り付け、同観測所のKOOLS分光器を用いて近傍銀河や突発天体の面分光観測を実施する。
近赤外広視野カメラOAOWFCの定常運用を継続し、自動観測によって銀河面を探査する。また、ガンマ線バーストの即時追跡観測を実施する。
中国50cm望遠鏡を中国・チベットに輸送し、チベット・阿里観測所に設置して調整・試験を行う。中国国内事情により輸送が大幅に遅れる場合には、国内設置も含めて対応を検討する。
LIGO/Virgoと交わした協定書に従い、平成27年9月ごろから予定されているLIGOの第一回定常運転と連携して、LIGOで検出された重力波候補イベントに対して、上記の観測装置群を含んだJ-GEMネットワークで光赤外電波の追跡観測を実施する。追跡観測結果は、同協定書に参加している海外の研究機関と情報共有して、国際連携によって重力波の光赤外電波対応天体の発見に努める。
