Outline of Annual Research Achievements

１）原始大気形成プロセスの考察：隕石の酸素同位体比に基づき、地球―月系はドライな惑星として45.6億年前に誕生し、44-42億年前に小惑星帯から飛来したCIコンドライトによって初めて大気・海洋が誕生したとするABELモデルが提案され、地球大気は誕生直後に400気圧あったとする原始大気モデルは誤りであることが判明した。つまり、大気・海洋成分は約２億年かけてドライな地球に徐々に付加されたはずで、このイベントはABEL重爆撃として再定義された。
２）生命誕生場としての自然原子炉間欠泉モデルの深化と生命誕生までの３段階モデル：　冥王代初中期には地球磁場がないため、地球表層環境は宇宙から降り注ぐ宇宙線などによって生命誕生場とはなりえなかったが、太陽の代替エネルギーとして機能した地下の自然原子炉は、生命誕生に必要な全条件をクリアする理想的な場だった。　このような場を通し、前駆的化学進化がどのように進行し前駆的生命体が生まれたのかという具体的描像が、「生命誕生までの３段階モデル」として提案された。このモデルによると、生命誕生は場の時間的変化に基づくもので、１）自然原子炉間欠泉内部での第一次生命体の誕生、２）太陽エネルギーを駆動力とした第二次生命体への進化、３）猛毒海洋への適用による第三次生命体の誕生、の３段階で進行した。
３）低温アンモニア合成実験と水素濃度定量：これまでにアノーソサイトのみを使った実験を行ったが、200℃100気圧において検出可能なアンモニアは合成されなかった。触媒として鉄隕石を加えた所、0.36 mmol/kg程度のアンモニアが確認されたが、鉄隕石中の有機分子が分解されてアンモニアが溶出した可能性を考慮する必要がある。一方で、蛇紋岩熱水系に形成されるドロマイトの可能性を示す事ができた。また250℃以下においては高いCO2分圧は水素発生が抑制される事を明らかにした。

Reason

１）地球の冥王代環境の復元：月のジルコンに基づく年代学から、後期重爆撃として説明されてきた39億年前のCIコンドライトの飛来が4.37-4.20Gaに遡ることを導き、これをABEL重爆撃として再定義し、地球形成モデルであるABELモデルとともに新たに提案した。また、この重爆撃による原初大陸の破壊と揮発性成分の付加が、地球のプレートテクトニクスの始まりであるというモデルも構築され、冥王代初期の地球進化のモデルはほぼ完成した。ABEL重爆撃後の原初大気進化についての研究が今後の課題である。
２）岩石―水相互作用：高濃度二酸化炭素下での蛇紋岩熱水系においては250℃以下の条件でドロマイトが形成される事を確認した。また、原始大気の高濃度二酸化炭素を減少させた一因として蛇紋岩熱水系に形成されるドロマイトの可能性を示す事ができた。また250℃以下においては水素発生が抑制される事を明らかにした。
３）太陽系の諸岩石惑星の全岩化学組成の決定：隕石の重元素超高精度同位体分析技術の開発と測定を進めた。分析技術の開発では、モリブデンもネオジムもTIMSを用いて従来の分析精度を約2倍、向上させることに成功した。ネオジムに関しては、炭素質コンドライト、普通コンドライト、およびエンスタタイトコンドライトの全岩同位体を測定し、隕石が持つ142Nd/144Ndの同位体異常は、初期太陽系における異なる核合成起源の物質の不均質分布が原因であることを導いた。今後の実験で異なる起動をもつ未分化隕石の同位体組成の決定を目指す。
４）原始地球表層の生命誕生場の整理と触媒科学のブレーンストーミング：生命誕生場として、自然原子炉間欠泉を提案し、間欠泉内部と表層の間の物質循環が導く「生命誕生の３ステップモデル」を提案した。今後は、間欠泉内部の各場における化学反応や触媒の種類、具体的な生命体についてさらに研究を進める。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

１）原始海洋の化学組成の定量化：代表的炭素質コンドライトの加熱・融解によって揮発する成分を定量分析し、炭素質コンドライトの平均化学組成に基づく揮発性物質の量と組成の計算結果を比較検討して、誕生直後の猛毒原始海洋組成（pH、塩分濃度、重金属元素の割合等）を求める。また、推定される原初大陸の化学組成をもとに、原初大陸の風化・侵食・運搬作用により、河川から海洋へと移動する間の岩石-水相互作用による海洋の組成変化を計算する。また隕石重爆撃の時代（約43.7-42.0億年前）の表層環境変動、主に海洋の組成と大気組成（量と組成）の変化を学際的手法で求めることをゴールとする。
２）地球の起源と新たな太陽系惑星形成論の展開：冥王代の地球表層環境を復元する上で必須な原始地球の化学組成を隕石学的知見をもとに明らかにする。具体的には、太陽からの距離に依存した累進的化学組成累帯モデルを、隕石学の諸情報と小惑星帯の観測結果を比較しつつ初生的な化学組成累帯とその原因を探る。
３）ガボン共和国の自然原子炉周辺地質の研究：冥王代表層環境のアナログである、20億年前のオクロの自然原子炉（ガボン共和国）周辺地域の地質調査を行う。集中的な地質調査を行い、周辺地域の詳細地質図を作成するとともに、地質試料を系統的に採取し、化石化した熱水循環システムに集積している有機化合物の種類の同定と同位体分析を開始する。
４）自然原子炉間欠泉モデルの深化と検証：生命誕生は、自然原子炉を駆動力とした間欠泉周辺部における物質循環システムの中で前駆的化学進化が進行したことによると考えられる。それぞれの場で合成される高分子有機化合物の特定とその活性中心の金属イオンの特定を進め、最古の酵素を推定することを主要な課題とする。
５）継続的なブレインストーミングの実施：他班との合同ワークショップを積極的に開催し、学際的議論を常時行う。
