Research Abstract	高分解能電子顕微鏡の設置が完了し、暗室等の附属施設ができ上がった時点から3〜4ケ月しかたっておらず、直接、この電顕を使用した成果の論文は、現在作成中である。しかし、Bonins(Leg 126)の航海において、申請者はじめ乗船研究者一同による総括的論文は、すでにNature、Geotimes、地学雑誌に発表された。本年7月、ハワイにおいてポストクル-ミ-ティングが行なわれるが、申請者が手にした試資料をもとに、研究結果を発表するので、そのリポ-ト(Initial Report of ODP Leg126)にむけて、論文を作成中である。伊豆・小笠原弧のトランセクト掘削は、ODP開始以来最深の掘削に成功し、前弧から背弧にかけて、次の事柄が明らかになった。 1.島弧から背弧にかけて、鮮新世〜更新世で火山活動が活発化した。 2.第四紀の初めに背弧側でリフトの形成が開始され、玄武岩の活動が深海で起った。この玄武岩の活動の後背弧海盆には、火山灰層がはさまれている。0.2Ma以降大量の火山性堆積物が堆積した。 3.この火山性堆積物は、5層の軽石を主体とし、約6万年の間隔で噴火がおこったことを示す。 4.背弧凹地の熱水活動に伴う変質は、沸石類や緑色片岩相の低度変成作用による硫化鉱物を形成した。 5.前弧域では、鮮新世〜第四紀の火山灰や軽石を主とし、中新世〜後期漸新世のナンノ化石に富む遠洋性堆積物や漸新世のタ-ビダイト、デブリフロ-を主とする。 6.前弧海盆の基盤をつくる火山岩は、無人岩やカルクアルカリ岩である。前弧の温度勾配は、3ー5.5℃/100mであり、多くの沸石類や石こうが形成されており、かつて熱水の循環のあったことを示す。 7.前弧域の堆積物中の間隙水は、高いCa値を示す変質した海水である。
