Research Abstract |
1. Japan-UK joint symposium on molecular computational chemistry and discussion on cooperative research (Morokuma, Nakamura, Ohmine, Kato, Takatsuka) Five investigators attended the 23th UK quantum theory symposium at Oxford for September 19-21, and on September 24-25 held the Japan-UK joint symposium on molecular computational chemistry at Oxford with 12 UK participants, to exchange information about recent development in this field in Japan and UK and to discuss methods of cooperative research between the two countries. 2. Japan-UK joint symposium on material chemistry and discussion on cooperative research (Maruyama, Mitani, Nakahara, Shirota) A Japan-UK joint symposium on material chemistry was held on March 17-20, 1990 at Bath for the main theme of "organic molecular solids and metal coordination compounds having unique solid state properties " with 5 Japanese, 10 UK invited speakers and several other UK participants. Five sessions were for polymers, LB membranes, molecular solids, phthalocyanine and thin film, and mixed-valence complexes. 3. High resolution spectroscopy of unstable molecules (Tanaka) Tanaka visited Cambridge University for 2months and carried out the following experiments. (1) Infrared diode laser spectroscopy of molecular ions using the velocity modulation. (2) Infrared absorption spectroscopy of metal carboyls in supersonic molecular jet. 4. Research on soft x-ray spectroscopy (Naoe) Naoe visited SERC Daresbury Laboratory for 3months and carried out studies on the status of beams for 800-4000 eV soft xーray region at Daresbury, and carried out messturements on some semiconductor samples.
