Research Abstract |
Auricular deformity occurs from cartilages deformities and hypoplasia. Microtia is a severe auricle deformity and it is said l microtia patient per 20,000 births in Japan. My purpose for this research is the establishment of the microtia reconstruction method using perichondrium of the costal cartilage. Because of only perichondrium removal, no costal deformity occurs. In point of view, I would like to do research about fundamental reaction of transplanting perichondrium. To create the shape of an Auricle; I like to use "Shape Memory Alloys". I removed perichondrium from a rabbit's ear. Then the perichondrium is wrapped around the shape Memory Alloy and placed subcutaneously into the rabbit's back. Grafted perichondrium will be removed from the back in 1, 2, 3 and 6 months later for examination by soft X-ray. I will check the tissue adaptation between Shape Memory Alloy and electrically stimulated perichondrium. I will also start long term observations for periods greater than 12 months. I am now doing very fundamental observations of having put in the standard (uncovered) Shape Memory Alloy, subcutaneously. I would like to continue this research for a few more years.
