Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to improve the methodology for prediction of service life of building. We developed some method for this purpose applying the concepts of human life tables. And other is to make field research on reason for building demolition, and field research on life time of buildings. The first research is, the purpose of this study is getting basic data for considering the way that building should live longer with good condition for user. We surveyed reason for demolition of recently demolished building. The way of survey is to ask companies those are owners of buildings for rent to fill out the questionnaire about the reason of building demolition. The second research is, this field research on the life time of various kind of building estimated by using a method similar to making life table of being. Defining there presentative value of life time as when the half of a cohort should be demolished, wooden residential houses have 38-year life, and wooden apartment houses have 38-year life. Another four type of houses, those of reinforced concrete and those of steel frame, were also investigated. And their life time do not differ much from those of the wooden ones. Two types of office building were also investigated for reference, and they had similar or a little shorter life time than the houses.
