Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to elucidate the aspect of the development of the esoteric Buddhism in India and it's propagation into the area around not only by the literature but by the composite examine of the result of research of the ruins and the article left found on the spot. The head investigator has done field-work around this area since about fifteen years. Five investigators also did the research in Bangladesh from 1991 to 1993 and brought many picture-materials. in 1992 and 1993 these five investigators discussed several times having meetings and got the result as the following. 1)Buddhas and Bodhisatvas in Mandalas of the Vajradhatu-system which were made during the late period of Tantric Buddhism in India for the purpose of prayr's physiognomy and do not connect directly with the belief of the masses. 2)The kings who ruled Bengal in this period are not always Buddhist, there were many kings who believed Hinduism. And it become clear that the principal religion of the masses was Hinduism. 3)It is proved that the cross plan in the yard of four big temples in Pala-dynasty was closely related with Vajradhatu Mandala. 4)It become clear that Jagaddala temple was in Varendra in Bangladesh. 5)It was clear that Solid Mandalas of the Vajradhatu-system was conveyed to Indonesa, too.
