Research Abstract |
THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP THE HARD SURFACING WITH THICK LAYER FOR AL MATERIALS.FOR THIS PURPOSE, COMPOSITION INCLINED ALLOYING METHOD BY USING PLASMA ARC OVERLAYING PROCESS WAS NEWLY DEVELOPED.FUNDAMENTAL AND APPLICATION STUDIES WERE DONE FOR PROCESS PARAMETERS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF ALLOYED LAYER.MAIN RESULTS OBTAINED WERE SUMMARIZED AS FOLLOWS : (1)CERAMICS PARTICLE DISPERSED COMPOSITE LAYER AND/OR METAL ALLOYED LAYER CAN BE MADE ON AL SURFACE BY MELTING AL SURFACE BY PLASMA ARC AND INJECTING ALLOYING POWDERS INTO MOLTEN POOL.THE MOST ADEQUITE ALLOYING ELEMENTS WERE TIC AS CERAMICS PARTICLE AND CU AS METAL. (2)CONPOSITION INCLINED LAYER WAS MADE BY MULTI OVERLAYING PROCESS.THE COMPOSITION OF ALLOYING OR COMPOSITE ELEMENTS WAS GRADUALLY INCREASED WITH LAYER BY LAYER. (3)VOLUME FRACTION OF TIC PARTICLE IN THE FIRST LAYER ADJACENT TO THE BASE AL WAS SEVERAL %, BUT WAS INCREASED CONTINUOUSLY AND REACHED TO 95% AT THE TOP SURFACE OF THE LAST LAYER, THOUGH 100%TIC LAYER WAS DIFFICULT TO MADE ON AL SURFACE BY THIS PROCESS. (4)THE HARDNESS OF OVERLAYED LAYER WAS INCREASED GRADUALLY FROM SOFT FIRST LAYER TO HARD LAST LAYER.BY THIS INCLINED HARDNESS DISTRIBUTION THERE WAS NO PEELING BETWEEN BASE AL AND OVERLAYED LAYER BECAUSE OF GOOD ADHESION BETWEEN THEM. (5)WEAR RESISTANCES OF TIC OR CU OVERLAYED LAYER WERE IMPROVED UP TO 10 TIMES AS BASE AL AND IT WAS INCREASED UP TO 100 TIMES BY THE COMBINED ADDITION OF TIC AND CU.
