Research Abstract

本年も(1)アジア太平洋経済と日米関係、(2)新アジア太平洋地域主義、(3)新アジア太平洋経済秩序に向けて、という三つのセッションに分けて個別研究を進めた。なかでも、太平洋の東側と西側にできた北米自由貿易圏(NAFTA)とアセアン自由貿易圏(AFTA)に焦点を当て、アジア太平洋における地域主義の発展が日米関係にどのように影響しているか(あるいはその逆)という問題をポイントにして研究討論会を開催し、大きな成果をあげることができた。
研究討論会は、タイ国チュラロンコン大学の経済学部及び世界経済研究所の全面的な協力を得て、1994年8月31日と9月1日の両日バンコクで開催した。日本から6名、米国、韓国、オーストラリア、マレーシア、シンガポールから各1名参加するとともに、チュラロンコン大学、タマサート大学、バンコク滞在の米国、オーストラリア、日本の研究者が多数参加し、活発なディスカッションを行った。成果は、チュラロンコン大学の協力を得て、『Asia-Pacific Regional Development and US-Japan Economic Relations』というタイトルで報告書としてまとめた。また次年度の研究に関する打合せも行った。
バンコクにおける研究討議会と併行して、日本側研究者は、タイ、マレーシア、シンガポールで、通貨・金融、外国投資と工業化、AFTAおよびAPECについて現地調査を行った。(1994年8月-9月)
また研究代表者徳永は、ドル-ペソ問題がアジア金融市場に及ぼす影響について米国で調査を行うとともに、米国側研究者と次年度の研究について打合せをした。その結果、次年度は米国のアジア太平洋研究の拠点であるハワイの東西センタの協力を得て日米共同研究者によるワークショップを8月に開催すること、英文の研究成果を米出版社から刊行することを決めた。
