Research Abstract

平成5年8月に、3週間に亘る日本海国際共同観測を成功させた。この観測は、各国の経済水域制限よりも研究目的を優先させた点で、今後の日本海研究に新しい方向を示したと云える。CTD・採水、曳航式ADCP及びアルゴス漂流ブイにより、日本海上層流況の特性、特に極前線北部の反時計まわりの循環流を直接確認することができた。又、航海中に3本の係留系を日本海盆に設置した。これ等の係留系は本年7月に回収される予定であり、日本海固有水に関する初めての長期測流として期待されている。
上記国際共同観測の実現と平行して、日本海及び東アジア海域に関する様々な共同研究が進められた。即ち、ロシア観測資料の入手・解析とそのデータベース化;衛星赤外画像時系列の収集とその統計(wavelet)解析;韓国研究者の編集による詳細な風応力分布を用いた数値モデル実験。これ等の共同研究成果(及び途中経過)は、8月の観測結果と共に、平成6年1月に開催された国際シンポジウム(本研究主催)に於て公表・検討された。このシンポジウムには、共同研究者のみならず、内外から多数(70余名)の参加があり、本年度の研究成果をもとに、次年度の研究計画も検討された。特筆すべき共同研究成果はローカルな季節風の役割に関するものである。即ち、一連の数値実験により、冬季の風の吹き出しが東シナ海南部に海水の“pile up"を作り出し、これに伴う圧力分布が、東シナ海域の黒潮及び対馬暖流に大きな影響を与える可能性があることが示唆された。この海域の季節変動を説明する有力なメカニズムと思われる。なお、そうした季節的“pile up"を直接検証することも計画している。
