Research Abstract |
The research collaboration between University of Stirling and Tokyo University of Fisheries, Miyazaki University and The University of Tokyo supported by exchange of staff has led to significant advances in fish diseases. A species-specific DNA fragment was cloned from Aeromonas salmonicida by RAPD-PCR.A set of PCR primers was developed for the detection of the speciesspecific DNA region from fish tissues which were infected with A.salmonicida. Drug resistant R plasmic were detected from A.salmonicida isolated in scotland. Three kind of hemolysin genes were cloned and analyzed from A.salmonicida. The human onco-genes of c-yst-1 and c-erb-2 were detected from the fish genome by Southern blot hybridization. Genetic variation between populations of salmonid parasite has been elucidated by the use of RAPD-PCR techniques and subsequent 18S ribosomal RNA extraction and sequencing. ey phagocytes. The phagocytic activity of kidney cells of rainbow trout was increased by administration of bovine lactoferrin to the fish. Bilirubin levels were significantly higher in the plasma of coho salmon infected with the EIBS virus than in the healthy fish. Rapid growth was accompanied by an abundance of immature erythrocytes, which had the greatest incidence of inclusion bodies. A new fluorochromasia method has been established to assay spontaneous cytotoxic activity of carp leukocytes. A depressed growth rate in the absence of pathological changes was observed in the larvae of red sea bream and Japanese croaker exposed to low concentration of non-ionized ammonia. Pathological changes were observed in the skin and cartilage. An indirect ELISA was developed for the detection of antibody in serum of flounder and eel. An investigation on the hemolytic activity and methemoglobin formation activity of a group of amphoteric and anionic surfactant was carried out using common carp.
