Research Abstract

In the present study, we observed that the effect of nutritional disorder on quality of life (QOL) during the climacteric.
For the first step, we developed a standardized questionnaire to assess the health-related QOL among Japanese climacteric people. The results of the validity and the reproducibility tests of the questionnaire were adequate to assess QOL of these people.
For the second step, we observed the relationship in QOL score of the questionnaire with marginal nutrition disorder (marginal deficiency and marginal toxicity) of 222 females and 212 males during climacteric (40-59 years old) from the result of the cross sectional study. Among low QOL score people, two groups of people were observed, the one was the people with marginal nutrition deficiency, and the other was the people marginal nutrition toxicity.
Through an intervention study with 43 females during climacteric, we found that their QOL score was improved when the marginal nutritional disorder was correct.
