Research Abstract |
1.This research was done under the headed title through the academic yeaes of 1993 and 1994. 2.It is generally agreed that distinction among the categories in "Education of making objects" in Japan is stable and there are little interactions among them. Reasons of the difficulty in reconstructing of them have several aspects, but the lacking of historical research is the main one. In the first year, the project was mainly concerned with the validness of the crafts education in Japan based on the research by literature. In 1994, Ibuilt up a basic date source for the reconstruction of the subject in the view point of the difference of the "hand-in" system and "mass production" system, as well as a trial for their integration.(Chart 1) The late Ikuji Matsubara was the key person in the education of crafts(shuko, kosaku and kogei)and technology, and his works on their systems, theory and practice were essential. But a large part of the materials on his works has been lost. I gathered them as many as possible, and made a list of them with summaries.(Chart 2) This project is related to the basic research for the development of a research date base in art education, which connects the project with the general field of art education. Further, I am building a date base of materials such as textbooks, instruction manuals, teaching manuals and technical instructions on crafts education between the beginning of the Meiji period and 1945 based on a survey in the archives in the Yokohama Art Museum and other libraries. These data sources will be reorganized and offered to the researchers of this subject.
