Research Abstract

To establish the rational design technology to contribute the weight reduction and lower production cost of a tractor frame, practicability of optimum design approaches based on a computational mechanics were discussed. Selected findings can be drawn as follows.
1.Practical significance of a bionic design approach was clarified showing the application examples for various type of tractor members.
2.Three-dimensional model were constructed using octahedral thin shell elements. Shape optimization suggested the capability to achieve weight reduction without sacrificing the specific strength.
3.A frame model provided by a composite material, i.e.FRP,was scrutinized in view of the stress concentration and other related strength characteristics.
4.Configuration data as well as component layout file data were incorporated into operational environments using IGES interface which can lead to enhancement of designing quality.
5.Comprehensive evaluation being related with weight reduction were to be made properly.
6.Applying static elastic-plastic analysis, strength information under plasticity region regarding deformation and stress distribution was found to be obtainable.
