Research Abstract |
The intercalation reaction of aromatic amines into alpha-tin(IV) bis(hydrogenphosphate)[alpha-SnP] was conducted at 25゚C by mixing the phosphate and solutions of amines. From a basic point of view, the intercalation of n-alkylamines into alpha-SnP was at first re-examined, where the reaction time was 2 days, The alkyl chains of n-alkylamines of n-alkylamine/alpha-SnP intercalation compounds obtained at amine/alpha-SnP mixing ratio (r) of 3.41 and 1.71 were inclined roughly at an angle of 67.7゚ to the alpha-SnP layr. A kink formation was assumed in alkyl chains of butyl-to nonlamine/alpha-SnP intercalation compounds obtained at r of 0.85. Next the intercalation reaction of amomatic amines such as aniline, pyridine, alkylaniline, chloroaniline, and phenylenediamine into alpha-SnP was examined. When benzenic solution of aniline was mixed with alpha-SnP for 4 days, aniline was intercalated at r more than 17.1. By mixing of alkyaniline benzenic solutions with alpha-SnP at r of 34.1 for 4 days, although p-alkylaniline was intercalated into alpha-SnP,0-toluidine and o-ethylaniline were not. However, the m- and p-isomers of toluidine and ethylaniline were intercalated. By comparison of intercalation behavior of p-alkylanilines and that of n-alkylamines and by difference of intercalation of o-, m-, and p-isomers of toluidine and ethylaniline, the intercalation mechamism of amines could be considered to be responsible for the interlayr water of alpha-SnP.Futer work is required for the intercalation of phenylenediamine because of lack of reproducibility of experoments. Since pyridine is soluble in water, the intercalation mechanism is studied more in detail by the use of the amine.
