Research Abstract

パプアニューギニアに居住するギデラ族とバロパ族の血液サンプルの分析から,栄養,疾病,遺伝について,それぞれ以下の点を明らかにした。
(1)バロパ族およびギデラ族の貧血者の割合について,鉄の栄養状態と関連させて比較を行った。鉄欠乏の割合は男女とも両集団で差はみられなかったが,村落別にみると女性では0から11.7%と顕著な差がみられ,鉄の摂取量が近代化とともに低下する可能性が示唆された。一方,マラリア抗体価検査から,ほぼ全員が感染を受けているギデラ族の海岸沿いの村落やバロパ族の各村落で,鉄欠乏を伴わない貧血者が多くみられた。
(2)ギデラ族673検体についてHLA-DRBI遺伝子のアリルタイピングを行った。14種類の既知のアリルが同定されたが,その分布は13村落で異なっており,遺伝距離と地理的距離の相関関係が確認され,オーストラリア・アボリジニよりもポリネシアなどの集団との近縁性を支持する結果が得られた。また,マラリア罹患率の高い村落に共通して高頻度に観察されるアリルはなかった。
(3)遺伝性の異型赤血球症は世界の各地で見出されているが,東南アジア型(メラネシア型)楕円赤血球症は,アジア・オセアニア由来の人々から見つかり,マラリア抵抗性の点,人類の移動・拡散の点から興味深い。ギデラ族におけるバンド3遺伝子の変異の分布をPCRで調べた結果,27塩基対欠失をもつ個体は内陸部よりも低地に多いことが示された。
さらに,これまでの結果のデータベース化をすすめ,栄養,疾病,遺伝のデータを相互に関連させながら参照できるようなシステムを構築しつつある。データベースはCDライタによってCD-Rに焼き込むことによって研究班内で共有することが可能になった。さらに,マイクロシミュレーションモデルのアルゴリズムの改良によってプログラム実行時間を短縮し,昨年までの10倍規模のシミュレーションが可能になった。
