Research Abstract

「統合的英語教育システムの開発」は教育工学、語彙中心教材、内容中心教材、評価およびテスト、教員教育の5分野を統括するプロジェクトである。5分野はそれぞれ独自に研究がおこなわれたが、個々の分野の研究がお互いを刺激しあい、かつ、統括プロジェクトに統合されていくように設計されている。研究方法を特に規定せず、質的な研究方法と量的な研究方法を組み合わせて、3年にわたり研究をおこなった。
様々な形態での、発表、討論、輪文、を通して、研究分担者は研究成果を公表し、相互に関連づけていった。大きなものとしては、ワークシヨップを1回開き、2冊の報告書(University-based Perspectives on English Curriculum Development 1998年3月,100頁, The Web of English Curriculum Development 1999年8月,112頁)を出版した。
成果として以下のような知見が得られた。 1)学習技術、批判的に考える技術、コンピュータ活用技術という新しい視点の技能を導入しながらの、伝統的な読む聞く書く話すの4技能の統合、2)教材の内容を重視した敬育、及び大学で学問をする上特に必要とされる英語運用能力を重視した教育、3)従来の訳続の授業から、いろいろなものをいろいろな方法で読む授業への変化、4)意味のまとまりを考えた語彙、慣用表現の指導、および、話したり書いたりする基本としての談話構造の指導、5)ノートの取り方などの学習技術の重要性、および様々な学習内容、方法の検討の必要性、6)大学での学習者の視点から見た外国語学習に対する理解、7)教育に新しい技術を取り入れるときの問題、8)学習成果全体を測る既存の有効な言語測定法の導入の必要、9)異文化間のアイデンティティーに対する検討、 10)既存の教育組織内での教員及びカリキュラム開発に対する束縛に関する理解。
プロジェクトでは、今日の学生に対する理解を重視した。学生達は学んだことを、身近な世界、地球規模の世界、仮想の世界にまで、発展応用させたいと思っている。学生達の自律を育み尊重するような学際的な学習形態をますます必要としてきている。今日の学生達は危機的な世界状況や自分たちを尊重しない教育に対して非常に批判的である。そのような学生の状況を理解した上て、研究分担者―同、学生のニーズに対応した教育を開発するにはどうしたらよいか、理解しはじめたところである。
