Research Abstract	東ガート帯中部のヴィサカパトナム周辺地域の構造地質学的検討を実施したほか、平成8、9年度の研究成果をもとに、東ガート帯全体の変成造構史を考察し、さらに、周辺のゴンドワナ陸片地域の造構史との対比を行った。ヴィサカパトナム周辺地域では、早期の折り畳み褶曲やシース褶曲などの3時期の過褶曲構造と、後期の軸面急傾から垂直の等斜褶曲、開いた褶曲、塑性剪断、脆性剪断の少なくとも7時期の構造が認められ、2あるいは3の重複変動を被っていることが窺われた。さらに、変成作用は、13kb・1150℃を越す高圧高温条件から等温減圧、等圧降温〜等温減圧の少なくとも2回の等温減圧事件を示しており、これも複変動帯の特徴を持っていることが指摘される。年代データから見ると、主変成作用は約12〜14億年前のアルカリ深成岩類の貫入事件の前で、約20億年前と約15億年前と考えられる。その後、約10億年前にも圧縮場におけるグラニュライト変成作用があり、さらに約8億年前と約5億年前には、花崗岩の貫入を伴う再変動があった。東ガート帯西縁部分では約28〜26億年前の変成年代が得られている。この部分は基盤の再変動地帯であろう。東ガート帯のこのような多時階の変動は、そのすべてを周辺のゴンドワナ陸片に追跡することは出来ない。同帯の北東延長にあたる南西オーストラリアのアルバニー・フレイサー帯では、約10億年前変動とそれより古い事件が、南東延長である南極のナピア・レイナー帯では、10億年変動とそれより新しい事件が、よく追跡される。このことは、約10億年前頃に、東ガート帯周辺のゴンドワナ陸片地域に大きなテクトニクスの変換が生じたことを示していると考えられる。以上の研究成果は、国外誌や英文紀要等の学術論文7編、英文の論文集などの書籍2冊、国際学会などにおける学術講演12題として公表された。
