Research Abstract |
In the first place, I have pursued the codes by which the face and the body of women have been represented in the essays on women from the Renaissance to Mannerism. Concretely they are the Dialogo delle bellezze della donna (Firenze 1548) of Agnolo Firenzuola and Il libro della Bella Donna (Venezia 1554) . I have analyzed further the mechanisms of the gender relationship, and made clear their relationships with the portraits of women in the 16th century in Italy. In the second place, I have analyzed the self-portraits from the Renaissance in the western art. I have intended to make clear some characteristics in the act of self-representation by means of the mirror.
