Research Abstract |
Morphological and moleculobiological studies using immunocytochemical, Tunel, and electromicroscopical methods are performed on various types of pancreatic tumors, to examine their regressive charactors (including apoptosis) and malignant factors. One hudred and four cases of pancreatic tumors obtained by surgery and autopsy are examined, in which 46 cases are endocrine tumors, and 58 cases, exocrine tumors. As a result, necrotic changes are frequently observed in ordinary type of ductal carcinomas, malignant endocrine tumors, acinar cell carcinomas and SC tumors. Apoptotic changes are recognized in only 20% of pancreatic tumors, however, more than 70% of cases of SC tumor are positive in tunel methods, and apoptotic bodies are also revealed by electronmicroscopy. Proliferative activities appeared by nucleasr mitosis and proliferative cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) -psitivity are more domininantly revealed in high-malignat tumors such as ordinary ductal carcinomas, and more weakly in benign tumors suchas SC tumor and benign endocrine tumors. In conclution, proliferative activity observed in pancreatic tumors seems to parallel the malignant potentiarity in pancreatic tumors. The relations between apoptosis and malignancy in pancreatic tumors should be more intentively examined.
