Research Abstract |
Odontogenic cysts are rather common lesions arising in jaw bone. Radicular cysts originate from dental caries and they grow according with absorption of alveolar bone. However, fundamental mechanism of development and growth of odontogenic cysts are still unclear. Usual structures of odontogenic cysts are composed with wall of fibrous tissue and several layers of epithelial cells lining in cystic surface. This epithelial layers may lack sometimes probably due to accompanying inflammation. Therefore, this experimental study of transportation of various substances through cystic walls was scheduled in vitro. Cyst walls removed from clinical cases of odontogenic radicular group. Cysts were used as experimental materials. Cyst walls were washed twice by Hanks solution and set in my original diffusion chamber, then incubated at 37 degree temperature in 95% 02- 5%C02 in experimental group or 95% N2 - 5%C02 in control group. Concentration of objective materials in both chambers was sequentially measured. When one chamber was filled with 5% glucose solution and the other was filled with serum of the patient, increase of the content of sodium and chloride from serum substances in the chamber filled with glucose was greater in experimental group than control group. However, any positive proof of active transport of various substances through cystic wall or secretion of inflammatory cytokines from cystic walls has not obtained.
