Research Abstract |
This study is concerned with the properties of expression in children's art. This so done by monitoring the colored drawings of Japanese infants aged 3 to 6 years old. Fortunately, the Gifu City Kindergarten adopted a curriculum whereby infants are given free choice as to what they want to do. Hence, the spontaneous drawing activities are a good and natural source of data. Since 1987, the researcher has been measuring the weight of each of 16 colored crayons per infant in the said kindergarten. This is done three times a year at the end of each semester. Specifically, in July, December, and March of the following year. Up to now, the study has been generating computerized statistical graphs based on data collected from about 500 infants. The collected data shows that the predominantly used colors vary from individual to individual. This becomes clear as inferred from the difference between the population standard deviation and that of the sample (individual one). The purpose of this year is establish the sure of standard deviation (norm). For the present, it achieved in aged 3 to 5 years old alike, so that it expect that the study on predominant use color of the future can make rapid evolution.
