Research Abstract

本研究は物質中で多数の電子が強く相互作用している系が示す多彩な物質相に着目し、その相を制御するための学理と応用を探るものである。
1.スピン-電荷結合系の光による相制御
スピン-電荷-軌道の自由度間に強い結合を有するペロブスカイト型マンガン酸化物で、その軌道秩序状態において、軌道量子波、オービトン、の存在を初めて実験的に明らかにし、高速な電子相の制御の可能性を拓いた。次元性、フィリング、バンド幅、格子歪みなどの精緻な制御により物質相に劇的転換が起こることを実証した。X線散乱による軌道秩序検出の可能性を探る為、スピン秩序、格子歪みを制御し、軌道占有率を固定した一連の薄膜試料によって、共鳴x線散乱への軌道秩序の寄与を定量的に評価し最大で1/4程度であることを示した。室温で磁性と光物性が双安定性を示す一次元ラジカル結晶に着目し、両者が同時に変化する光誘起相転移を見出した。偏光敏感なテラヘルツ時間領域分光法を開発し、テラヘルツ周波数領域における磁気光学測定技術の開発を進め、0.5-3THzの周波数領域で誘電率の非対角成分を定量的に決定する手法を確立した。
2.スピン-電荷結合系のスピニクス
フラストレートしたスピン格子構造を持つ、パイロクロア型モリブデン酸化物において、立体角を持って非平面的にスピンが配列する強磁性体を発見し、量子ベリー位相による特異な異常ホール効果を見出した。CuGeO_3の不純物誘起反強磁性相の起源を探るため、常圧ではスピン・パイエルス転移が観測されないMg高濃度試料の高圧物性を調べ、高圧下でスピン・パイエルス相が復活することを見出した。STMによる高温超伝導体のミクロ相分離の観測の結果、超伝導ドメイン間の距離がコヒーレンス長の数倍離れても超伝導電流が流れるという「巨大」近接効果を確認し、また超伝導ドメインがドーパント原子にピン止めされていることを発見し、高温超伝導のナノメートル制御への道を拓いた。3角格子を有する2次元有機伝導体において、これまで明らかにしてきた超伝導状態、反強磁性状態に加え、幾何学的フラストレーションがスピンと電荷に作用する結果として、量子スピン液体状態と電荷グラス状態が実現していることを見出した。磁気光学差像法、走査型ホール素子顕微鏡、ジョセフソン・プラズマ共鳴等の手法開発を行い、高温超伝導体の混合状態における磁束系のとる諸相の同定と制御、Mn酸化物等の強相関磁性体の磁区構造・磁気輸送現象の研究を進めた。
3.スピン-電荷-光・結合系の量子論
(1)低ドープ領域の高温超伝導体に対する新しい変分波動関数を提案し、従来のものよりも低いエネルギーを与えることを示し、物理的性質を明らかにした。またSU(2)理論により、超伝導状態における新奇な集団励起モードを発見し検出法を提案した。第一原理計算でSrRuO_3の異常ホール効果を求め、実験と良く対応する結果を得るとともに、それが運動量空間における"磁気単極子"に支配されることを見出した。
(2)第一原理計算によって強相関電子系の電子構造および金属絶縁体転移近傍での電子物性を調べた。LDA+U法により、層状化合物La_<2-x>Sr_xNiO_4の電子構造を調べE_gタイプ歪の効果を明らかにした。GW法により遷移金属、第三周期元素の酸化物の電子構造を計算し、動的遮蔽効果を議論した。LDA(局所電子密度近似)とDMFT(動的平均場近似理論)との結合による新しい逐次摂動公式を導き、軌道縮退した系の金属絶縁体転移を調べた。
(3)スピンパイエルス相転移に着目し、格子自由度を含めた量子モンテカルロ法の研究を行い、格子の揺らぎによる高温帯磁率の変化、スピン1の系でのスピンパイエルス相転移、格子の量子揺らぎによるスピンパイエルス状態の融解と量子ナロウイングを見出した。分子磁性体に特有の量子ダイナミクスに着目し、量子系での断熱変化の立場から理論解析を行い、V_<15>における特異なエネルギー準位構造とそこでの磁場掃引効果等の解析をおこなった。
4.強相関エレクトロニクスの応用
室温で動作する電子素子の開発のため、電荷秩序温度が室温以上にある材料の開発を始めた。様様なAサイトオーダーおよびBiを含むMn酸化物薄膜を作製したが、未だ構造解析によって電荷秩序が確認される試料は出来ていない。
