Research Abstract

The themes of the project were three. First, we tried to collect information from over Japan about historical archives on Modern Japan and we successfully built the data bases of catalogues and locations of the archives (see Chap.3, 4). To be concrete, we sent out some 1200 questionnaires to the archive centers and photocopied some 200 valuable catalogues and bought some 300 books. These will be preserved at the library of GRIPS.
Second, we run a web site for the archives information on Modern Japan but it was not very successful because of the copy rights and bad condition of the server (See Chap2).
Third, we are publishing a book titled " The Report on the Preliminary studies on Information center for Historical Archives on Modern Japan". It is to provide the researchers over Japan with the valuable information about Modern Japan based on the project (Japanese ; forthcoming). The book contains the oral records by the specialists on historical archives. The project was unprecedented so we believe that the report will be helpful to all the historical students.
